The Importance of iPaaS and its use in E-Commerce
What is iPaaS?
Integration platform as a service (iPaaS) is a cloud-based application infrastructure that is used for both the development of single applications and enables integration between various applications. iPaaS is also built upon the use of Software as a Service (SaaS), application software, and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), a virtualized environment on which systems can be deployed. Integration with SaaS can handle simple integration scenarios like point-to-point or point-to-multipoint but cannot adequately manage complex scenarios. In simple terms, iPaaS is a platform used to build and deploy integrations within the cloud and between the cloud and enterprise.
Why is iPaaS important?
iPaaS helps businesses achieve digital transformations for the future. iPaaS aids in simplifying the connections between an enterprise’s numerous cloud applications that are used by various parts of the organization. Instead of having to rely on the IT team to make sure the systems interact with each other, iPaaS will diminish the extra work and as a result, will reduce costs and improve speed and efficiency.
iPaaS is a vital component within a hybrid integration platform (HIP). According to Mulesoft, in 2018, 20% of large organizations used their hybrid integration platforms to integrate other platforms[i]. As more applications move to the cloud, they must combat the cloud silo problem, the challenge that comes with shifting to cloud and integrating SaaS with other SaaS applications or older legacy systems.
Since the iPaaS system is fully integrated in the cloud, it can be accessed from anywhere with an Internet connection. It also holds a multi-tenant architecture so that multiple tenants share the same infrastructure, as well as being able to scale easily to add on-demand resources to meet high-volume data-integration demands as the business grows.
iPaaS integration with E-Commerce
According to a report from Big Commerce, 80% of shoppers shop online monthly, with e-Commerce growing 23% year-over-year [ii]. Many applications and services have become available to help retailers accelerate their online presence and grow.
The applications and services simplify the process of interacting with customers in real time, targeting and marketing to potential consumers, personalizing online interactions, outsource fulfillment, optimizing the return system and various other capabilities.
In the age of Amazon, customers are getting used to having superiorly fast delivery fulfilment. E-Commerce retailers can no longer afford data bottlenecks. Systems of data and information cannot be isolated from one another and require immediate information exchange capabilities.
